The Battle of Provenz was fought during the Nortunk-Malvor war, which concluded in a decisive Empire of Malvor victory over the Mines of Nortunk.

BackgroundEdit

The Dwarves of the Mines of Nortunk had become an incomparable, unstopable power with their alliance with the Gmonia dwarfs, and with their large armies, equiped with the better weapons and armors such masters of iron and steel could create, there was no one who could challenge them:

Simply, from a technological, militar and logistic point of view, they where decades or even centuries ahead of their enemies, be fauns, goblins, beast people, or the Silvan Elves of the Empire of Malvor:

Like a swarm of locust, all the region of what will become, centuries later, Purpurian, falled into the light-blue banner of the two hammers and anvil of the Mine of Nortunk:

The Malvor silvan elfs, cornered in their last region of Provenz, where obligated to stand and combat, as they had no where else to retreat, but the desert of Iperto.

Both sides prepared their armies for weeks, until the day finally come, and the legions of the dwarves of Nortunk entered into the fields of Provenz...

BattleEdit

Deployment

The previous days, as the dwarves expected when dealing with the elves, they where target of recurrent attacks of elven skirmishers and rangers, who targeted mostly their siege weapons, and despise the loss of them, the Malvor silvan elves were depleting their scarce resourses and troopers in preliminary actions, and when facing silvan elves, the Nortunk dwarves didn't finded important their siege weapons, as no malvor city was fortified...

Finally, the day of the battle come, and all the Mines of Nortunk dwarven forces where in the fields of Provenz, and in front of them, only a handful force of Malvor elves, only a tiny fraction of the manpower and size of the vast armies of Nortunk...

Battle

But then, something strange happened:

The elves began to play music, and musicians flying in pegasus and hippogryphs passed over the dwarven armies, with their flutes and drums.

The dwarves laughed, and marched forward to exterminate these ridiculous elves...

When suddendly, the dwarves see the apocalypsis come over them:

From the mountains, following the music, about hundred of Giants of the Titanizk mountains, come over them...

DANCING.

The armies of Nortunk only lasted one song, before the proud sons of the Dwarven mines where flying in disorder, or were crushed under the "dancing boots" of the Giants.

The Battle of the Fields of Provenz wasn't a battle, but was a slaughter, an unfair battle that Nortunk not ever had the chance to fight...

and for the giants... many doubt they ever came to know they fighted a battle.

The Giants, normally depicted as evil, are simple creatures, and all their actions are basically triggered by their perpetual hunger, and they are allways hungry... but sometimes, the simple minded giants -who sometimes are as inteligent as a table- enjoy as well simple things...

The Malvor elves first tried to conscript the Giants into their armies, to face Nortunk. The giants ate the ambassadors.

Then, the Malvor elves sended more ambassadors, who speaked many languages... that were also eated.

They determinated then, that the Giants didn't speaked Malvorian elfic or any other know language, so they sended wise elfs to learn the language of the giants. They also eated them.

The Giants simply didn't had the attention spawn for something like that... Then, the elves tried to observate the giants...

But one time, an elven observator, bored, playing a flute, was unaware of the giants near him... they discovered him due the music... and ate him.

However the elves see that they liked it... so they sended some musicians... that the giants also eated.

But then, they sended more musicians... but riding pegasus: Away from the range of the hands and the hungr of the giants, they enjoyed the music...

And then, the elven military minds come back to a plan to use the force of the giants:

They teached the Giants how to dance (allways in safety, away from their mouths!) and the giants loved it...

So every time they eared music, they danced...

Then, the elves make giant stone and iron boots for the giants, and told them they where "dance boots"...

In such a way, with music, the Malvor silvan elves where able to unleash a tide of destruction upon their enemies...

AftermathEdit

The Malvor Empire victory was complete, and they take away from the Mines of Nortunk all their surface territories, triplicating their territory:

The whole region, afraid of the "Giant Dancers Corps of Malvor" became their vassals... but nothing is for ever. In a sucession war between the same Malvor Elves, to determinate the next Emperor, several factions used the terrible "Giant Dancers Corps" against they fellow countrymen, with such destructive results that a treaty was done banning for ever the military use of dancing giants... but the Malvor Empire, weakened to death, didn't lasted much more, before the Age of Invasions and Apparition of Humans...

Meanwhile, the defeat of the Dwarves in the Fields of Provenz, also, was an end: Nortunk will be the last great Dwarven power who tried to build and empire in the surface: After Provenz, the dwarves went underground, their weakening force and influence obligating them to be in the future secondary characters in the politics, traders and artisans, but no longer rulers or emperors...
