S A A H, Saahi Aminoti
Other names: Patihuaj, Frogger, Frog-men, Swamper, Ker-mit, Frogman, Frog People, Toadder, Battletoad, Ribitt
The Saah or Patihuaj, as well known as the Frog-people, was a kind of aminotas that lived in Aels, Zarhuy and Hieyoks, related to the tlannts.
Saah are amphibious people that have a various features that are similar to frogs. These revolve around their basic appearance of head and extremities, jumping ability, and properties of their skin.
Saah are a largely carnivorous in their diet, and were widely distributed, ranging from the tropics to subartic regions, but their greatest concentration was in tropical rainforests.
A Saah's skin is protective, has a respiratory function, can absorb water and helps control body temperature. The skin of the Saah is glandular, with secretions ranging from distasteful to toxic, which have made many other peoples see them as filthy or disgusting, thought sometimes the Saah secretions are used for poisons, medicines and as hallucinatory drugs. Saah' skins vary in colour from well-camouflaged dappled brown, grey and green to vivid patterns of bright red or yellow and black to advertise toxicity and warn off predators. Their skin is semi-permeable, making them susceptible to dehydration, so they live in moist places or have special adaptations to deal with dry habitats.
Adult Saah generally have a carnivorous diet consisting of small invertebrates, but they as well hunt larger preys -including other peoples-, but as well they feed on fruit to some degree.
Saah can only speak with difficulty some languages of other peoples, but many sounds for them are impronunciable. As well, it's extremely difficult to non-saah to speak their language. They produce a wide range of vocalizations, particularly in their breeding season, and exhibit many different kinds of complex behaviours to attract mates, to fend off predators and to generally survive.
Neither the Saah (of Zarhuy) or the Patihuaj (from Aels) had an advanced material culture, and they remained a culture of hunter-gatherers of nomadic or semi-nomadic lifestyle, that used tools mostly of wood, bone and some stone.
They reached their maximal territorial expansion before the High Elven colonialism: the high elves, and later other peoples during the age of Invasions, will push the Saah to borderlands, useless to other peoples, as swamps and wetlands -and so after the Saah, will be known the swamps of the Saahdons.-
The Saah and Patihuaj clans mostly kept to themselves, but still had some trade -and raid- relations with the neighbors of their territories, and from this trade they obtained metal tools and products they didn't produced. As well, during the great wars of the power and other smaller conflicts, some tribes will be either coerced or convinced to take part of some alliances, or small bands will serve as mercenaries and scouts, specially in areas of swamp. Renown were for example the Patihuaj Scouts of the human kingdom of Botania, that conscripted Patihuaj to serve as an amphibious force against the Nepperianos and Luganos Kanov.
In general, while Patihuaj of northwestern Aels tend to be portrayed as benign, ugly, and clumsy, but with hidden talents, the ones of Polforia and the Saah of Zarhuy had a more sinister reputation. It was believed that they were associated with witches, and while unable to make magic themselves, had magical powers. The toxic secretions from their skin was supposedly used in brewing evil potions, but was also put to use to create magical cures for human and livestock ailments. They were associated with the demons.
