The Kingdom of Sambeiro was one of the eastern Lataverican human nations of the Fantasy Age -and will later become part of the Empire of Sao Azill in the modern age-. Located south of the High Elven Kingdom of M'Adhai, the Kingdom of Sambeiro was a confederation of tribes. Like in Northern Ushaenor, in the neighbouring region of M'adhai, the High elves tried to prevent the human tribes from growing too powerful, dividing them and making political intrigues, diverting their forces and chances of unification: so the Sambeiro Kingdom was largely only a functional political puppet for the High Elven King of M'Adhai, to control in an easier way the Sambeiro tribes.
Amazons of Sambeiro Edit
The Sambeiro tribes, often clashing between each other -in part due elven intrigues to keep them divided-, will began to develop a highly ritualized form of tribal war between them, that cared little for practicality but for aesthetic aspects.
As well, either as their own native development of influenced by the 'harem warriors' of the High Elves of M'Adhai, as will come to be part of their culture the presence of warrior women -amazons.-:
Before the First War of the Power, when the Sambeiro wars had become almost completely mock battles rather than actual ones, which were fought only 12 days a year -12 days before Lent, up to the Ash Wednesday- in the capital of the Sambeiro: there their wars had become more of a contest -where the winners were granted the better agricultural lands, hunting and grazing grounds, and in successive order-, becoming an excuse for all the Sambeiro to gather:
Rhythm, participation and costumes varied between the different Sambeiro tribes, but the "battles", done by the "warriors" were meant to be watched by the public -while in other cases they will be allowed to participate: And so, the annual tribal war became an event of huge proportions, in which the "battles" were followed by festivities.
The most valued warriors of the Sambeiro were called the Feather Warriors.
Originally, these battles were fought in a more warlike manner, but increasingly the king of Sambeiro -which had only ceremonial powers, rather than political ones- and the elders began to regulate more and more the form of the tribal wars of the Sambeiro, making them more and more ritualized:
By 2200 a.a.H., they had long since become mock battles with injuries more akin to rough athletic sports than actions of war with participants actively trying to kill with deadly weapons. The object being to look as fearsome and supposed violence being as 'realistic' as possible, but without killing or seriously injuring one's adversaries.
Winning was nonetheless seen as very important in prestige and stakes were high for the glory of the participants, and for the benefit of the tribes that they represented. Hence, the participants played hard and played to win.
Effects of the War of the PowerEdit
However, as the Empire of Whide Axis joined the First War of the Power and prepared their armies to cross the Alan Ocean to Aels, they bolstered as well their numbers with warriors of their human vassal states, which included some Sambeiro warriors:
Equipped, fit and trained by the elves, and having fought a very different war, when the Sambeiro warriors who fought in the First War of the Power returned, slowly the ritualized war festivities began to lose importance as a war: they remained as a contest between the Sambeiro tribes, but began again to be fought combats out of the 12 days of war: still charged of rituals and not as lethal as other forms of war, but it will mean a de-legitimization of the ritualized war:
the final blow to the traditional Sambeiro war, their military history and equipment will come with the increasing clashes with other, non-Sambeiro lataverican tribes and the arrival of traders of the Caliphate of the Orange Sun of Blazakhov:
After that, the Festival remained as a festivity, but no longer the war: this will later come to be part in the modern age, part of the culture of Sao Azil.
